Assessment is a challenging area for many teachers, and has a significant impact on the learning experience for students. By considering assessment in the context of the whole teaching-learning process, this course explores ideas for designing quality assessments that provide relevant feedback and engage students in learning, including student self-assessment and peer-assessment strategies. Participants will engage in the course material through practical activities as well as interaction with other course participants through discussion forums.
As a result of participating in this course teachers will..
1) Understand assessment as a process of collecting a variety of evidence regarding student attainment of learning goals, and using that evidence to provide on-going, meaningful feedback to students.
2) Understand the role of formative assessment, including peer and self-assessment, in the teaching-learning assessment process.
3) Design and implement a wider variety of assessment strategies in their classroom.
